The subgroup consists of departmental records of Atlanta Urban League from 1930-1985. The subgroup includes records of the Community Services Department (1930-1982), the Housing Department (1944-1983), and the Employment Department (1941-1985). The records contain administrative files of department heads; records of programs and initiatives administered by the League including efforts to develop equality for African Americans in areas of housing, employment, health facilities, and community services; and materials relating to affiliates of the League.

The Atlanta Urban League, an affiliate of the National Urban League, was established in 1920. It is a private, non-profit, interracial community service organization which functions as a vehicle for addressing the social and economic problems of the black community in Atlanta, Georgia.
